The world-famous Macassar Ebony can only be found in Palu and Dongala, in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. This particular wood is well-known for its dramatic appearance, with a dark brown color scheme punctuated by reddish-orange streaks running throughout its length. Macassar Ebony is also known as a very dense type of wood (with a specific gravity of 1,3) and will sink in water. Due to its unique acoustic qualities, this wood is often used in high-end musical instruments, from guitars and violins to even grand pianos.
